Plácido Domingo (1941)
Born in Madrid, Spain on January 21, 1941.
He is one of the 3 tenors. He is the most versatile singer. He is also a conductor (like José Cura). He has his fingers in everythin operatic, or it does seem like that. Domingo is Spanish like Josep Carreras, but also Mexican as Rolando Villazon. Domingo is also Mexican as he grew up in Mexico City.
As tenors, two singers stand out as heirs to Plácido Domingo, José Cura from Argentina, and Rolando Villazon from Mexico. Cura often sound more like Carreras, where as Villazon is pure Domingo.
I never saw Plácido Domingo live as Stiffelio in my favorite opera (Verdi: Stiffelio).
